Wildfires have burned more than 5 million acres

Southwest Nebraska is being hit by wildfires again.

Multiple agencies are helping battle the fires. One is big enough to be detected on satellite. Nearly 150,000 acres have burned this year in Nebraska. Unfortunately, conditions are still favorable for more.

On a national scale, more than 36,000 wildfires have burned 5 million acres including farmland. Lightning has started 2,000 of them. People have caused the rest. Right now, more than 5,000 firefighters are assigned to incidents across the nation.
