Crop insurance has been a major topic of Farm Bill listening sessions, and the National Crop Insurance Services Group recently hit the road to talk to farmers firsthand.
The group traveled to North Carolina where more than 3 million acres of farmland is insured, which accounts for $2 billion worth of crops. Farmers expressed that they are tired of battling high input costs, and say they rely on crop insurance every season, which is why it is so important to remain fully funded in the 2023 Farm Bill.
“The farming part is the easy part. The financial stress that you face on the farm with the markets the way they are, at this day and time. The high fuel prices, the fertilizer prices, and not being able to get certain chemicals because of supply. If we don’t have farmers, we don’t have food or the fiber you know, for the world basically,” said Rena Eure, owner of Eure Family Farms.
