The Farm Credit Administration is also closely watching HPAI cases

High Path Avian Fly was also a topic at the Ag Commodity Futures Conference.

During the event, panelists talked about the potential impact on export activity, and what it could mean for borrowers.

“It’s been persistent for the past several years now. Dairy cattle are contracting it. Who knows where that will end up? It’s already resulted in some states and mining some bans on cattle, importing in and out of state. So, I mean, it is having an impact and as everyone else has mentioned, geopolitical pressure. We export about 20% or more of our U.S. ag production. So we’re dependent on those export markets. So anything that’s done in a foreign country, anywhere that is going to restrict that export activity is going to have an impact on our farmers and the commodity prices,” said Scott Donnelly with the Farm Credit Administration.
