The “Okie from Muskogee” is getting a statue

Merle Haggard plays on stage.

Country music legend, Merle Haggard is getting a statue! But it is not in his home state of California.

The “Okie from Muskogee” will be immortalized with a statue at the Muskogee Civic Center in Oklahoma. According to KOCO, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Merle Haggard Statue Committee look to honor the musician’s life with a bronze statue.

The civic center is actually the location where Haggard recorded the song and album Okie from Muskogee during a live concert.

“It is undeniable that to this day, over 50 years after the release of the record, people around the world still know Muskogee because of that song,” Sue Harris, the former president, and CEO of the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce stated.

The hall of fame and statue committee are currently looking for an artist to create their dream.
