Turkey growers are building a case to be included in the next Coronavirus Food Assistance Program Package. Producers were originally left out of the first round of payments, partly because of how the industry calculates losses.
Sarah Anderson, the executive director for the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association, discussed how their method of calculating payments left them out of the first round and what efforts they are making going forward.
“When you look at year-to-date production, we’re down about 108 million pounds versus 2019 numbers and we expect that to increase as we move through this pandemic,” she said.
