Mexico is the largest U.S. pork export market by volume.
The United States exported about 1.6 billion pounds to the country last year. Most sales were bone-in hams for further processing.
“We really see an opportunity for us to be able to diversify the product mix and the products going into Mexico,” Clay Eastwood, the National Pork Board’s International Marketing Manager, said.
Eastwood added they have task forces in the international marketing space with focuses on Japan and Mexico. One of the primary goals of the task force on Mexico is to gain back market share lost in 2018 and 2019.
Government funds will also be used to help customers in Mexico find new uses for pork loins.
