What is social media’s influence on Gen Z and food?

Social media has had a major influence on society since its inception. It has even impacted food and the way people consume it.

Gen Z is the first to grow up with social media, and a study by Ketchum found 61 percent of them feel pressure to eat a certain way, and tell the world about it.

Ketchum says 63 percent feel too much pressure to change the world and are likely to believe their food choices need to tell more about their health, values, and political beliefs.

When it comes to eating patterns, the study found 62 percent of Gen Z say social media has them convinced their eating patterns are wrong.

Ketchum says if food companies want to better connect with the younger generation, they need to consider the influence of the medium.
