Wildfire condition update in Oklahoma and how to prepare your herd

Cattle producers in Oklahoma are facing extreme fire danger conditions.

The state’s Cattlemen’s Association was alerted by the Department of Agriculture that high winds coupled with extreme temperatures and low humidity were in the forecast for the week and fires are breaking out across the farming community.

This video was shared on Twitter of the current conditions due to the lack of rain. You can see huge clouds of black smoke with the fire in the distance.

Some ways to prepare for these conditions on your operation is to move cattle to a smaller, enclosed location such as pens, have tanks with water and ready to be moved, avoid any activity that would create a spark on range lands and take inventory of your livestock and equipment.
