The Supreme Court of Iowa reversed a long-standing precedent in the state, in what some call a win for the pork industry.
A 2004 ruling allowed neighbors of livestock farms to sue for damages when a nearby hog farm causes the quality of life issues. The court voted 4 to 3 to reverse that decision.
Currently, there are roughly 23 million pigs being raised in Iowa. Hog farmers are praising the ruling, saying this will cut down on nuisance lawsuits.
