Millions of Americans are expected to scale-down Thanksgiving celebrations amid the pandemic and it could put turkey farmers in limbo.
The nation’s largest grocery chain, Kroger, reports that 43 percent of shoppers plan to celebrate only with their immediate household. Their survey also predicts demand will increase this year for ham, pork, seafood, and plant-based meat alternatives.
Turkey sales have been falling at Thanksgiving as consumers explore alternatives. Last year, Americans spent 3.5 percent less on the bird than the previous holiday.
