The National Pork Producers Council is again going to bat for producers against California’s Prop-12, calling it a challenge for the entire industry.
CEO of the council, Bryan Humphreys says that one of the biggest sticking points is the “dormant commerce clause,” with the way it is written, prohibiting the sale of meat and eggs from animals confined in a way California does not approve of.
He calls the clause an “overreach across state lines.” The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments in the case this October.
