Producers from out West are learning from cotton growers in Louisiana and Mississippi this week at the National Cotton Council’s Producer Information Exchange Tour.
“The key highlights would be getting to meet different producers from around the country and with the guys talking about how we run our operations, different strategies that we have fertility-wise, planting-wise, and getting to meet the producers down here and see how they run their operations,” said Oklahoma Cotton Farmer Austin Leverett.
Leverett also emphasized how important it is to learn new techniques. He says while growers are working toward the same goal, there are different ways to do it—and learning from others could help you out.
“The second place we went to has a unique 60-inch row spacing, which is unique,” he said. “I mean, we’ll see a lot of skip rows, but I haven’t seen any that’s widened out like that. We got to see a drone demonstration where guys were applying herbicides and things with drones - new technologies we haven’t seen anything around where I’m at like that so far.”
The NCC’s Producer Information Exchange Tour started in 1989 and to date, more than 1,200 producers have participated.
