Alex Trebek returns as Jeopardy host

Alex Trebek, 79, returned to Jeopardy Monday for his 36th season as the show’s host.

The host said in March he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was going through treatment.

“I am going to fight this and I am going to keep working, keep the faith and we’ll win,” he said on an episode earlier this year.

Last spring, there were some Jeopardy tapings that he was “withering in pain.”

“I’m happy to report I am still here,” Trebek said to open the show Monday.

Trebek has hosted close to 8,000 episodes of the trivia show, the record for most episodes of a single game show.

“It’s great to be considered an inspiration to other people,” Trebek told ABC News Monday morning. “People all over American have been sharing their good thoughts, their advice, their prayers and I feel it is making difference in my well-being.”
