America 250: Great American State Fair Opens on National Mall

The free event features exhibits from all 50 states as the nation begins celebrating its 250th anniversary.

Washington, D.C. (RFD News) — Celebrations are underway in the nation’s capital as the U.S. begins commemorating its 250th anniversary.

The Great American State Fair has opened on the National Mall, featuring exhibits from all 50 states as part of the nationwide celebration.

During the opening, President Donald Trump recognized the role farmers played in the nation’s founding.

“250 years ago, a new nation was founded by farmers and soldiers, shopkeepers and tradesmen. They stood strong to defend their rights, their families, their freedom from tyranny across the sea, from every city and town, from the mountains and valleys, from the back and rocky shores. They came by the thousands to fill the ranks of American patriots and enlist their lives and the righteous cause of independence. That’s what they did. This exceptional nation was forged by some of the bravest, toughest, most extraordinary people to ever stride the earth.”

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins also took part in opening ceremonies.

Admission is free, and the event runs through July 10.
