Ag groups are pushing for continued trade with China. Specifically, the American Soybean Association is calling on lawmakers to ensure no harm comes to that relationship.
President Josh Gackle tells Brownfield Ag News it has taken years to build a good working trade relationship with China, and they are a large buyer of U.S. soybeans. He says any new tariffs could be detrimental to U.S. growers and notes while the U.S. considers enhancing national security, leaders must maintain and protect economic trade interests.
Last marketing year, the value of U.S. soybeans hit around $32 billion, and China made up around $19 billion of that total. The next largest buyer behind China in terms of value was just $3 billion.
