Apply precision ag to cover crops!
South Dakota state researchers are studying how a more specific approach to cover cropping will help with managing soil.
Ali Nafchi with the university Extension explains: “Precision cover cropping system can further improve the benefits of the conventional cover cropping system and will help growers to make informed decisions. We will divide each cover crop field into zones based on the historical yield data, including the producer’s knowledge about the field, soil types, and then the conditions as well as disease and pest management.”
The hope is that a precision ag approach would lower cost while increasing benefits for producers and their operations.
