The number of fish farms in the U.S. is declining, despite consumer demand for fish and shellfish.
USDA’s Research Arm says in the last two decades, consumption grew by 31 percent. However, the number of aquaculture farms dropped by the thousands.
For now, imports are filling the gap. They totaled $25.5 billion in 2023.
