Many dairy producers are looking to add beef production to their operations but Cargill says there are steps to take before starting the new enterprise.
An animal nutritionist with the group tells Brownfield Ag News producers first need to find where these animals are going before committing time and money, and understanding there is a period before those animals go to market. Then, a successful beef-on-dairy system starts with the right genetics and the right feed. Holstein traits build a good frame, so feeding beef animals are different since the focus is more on building lean muscle.
