Buck Henry, ‘The Graduate’ Writer & ‘Get Smart’ co-creator passes away at 89

Buck Henry, the screenwriter behind The Graduate and What’s Up, Doc? and co-creator of Get Smart has died of a heart attack at 89. Henry was also a presence in the early years of Saturday Night Live.

A family member confirmed the news to Deadline News.

Henry was nominated for two Oscars, one for his adapted screenplay for The Graduate and another for directing the 1978 movie Heaven Can Wait. He won a writing Emmy in 1967 for Get Smart.

Henry was a familiar face on Saturday Night Live, where he hosted 10 episodes in the show’s first five seasons.

Henry is survived by his wife, Irene, who was by his side when he passed away. He had no children.
