Stephen Simpson wrote a check for the entire negative lunch balance for the county, totaling $2,564.47, and gave it to the school district.
The check was delivered on Friday morning. There were over 28 pages of kids with an outstanding balance, balances that were all eliminated.
Simpson read about the school lunch debt in a local news story on Thursday and decided to do something about it. He said he was also inspired by another businessman who paid of the past-due utility bills for 36 families.
The district’s food service director Jalenna David was overwhelmed when she heard what Simpson was doing.
“I was beyond excited to hear of the generous donation made this morning to assist families that had accrued a negative balance,” Davis said in an email to the News Journal.
