Congress is set to vote on a new COVID bill

Congress could vote today on a coronavirus relief and stimulus bill.

They reached a deal late last night that includes a $600 dollar stimulus payment to individuals. Part of the weekend negotiations centered around ag and nutrition provisions.

The bill provides:

  • $13 billion dollars to farmers

  • $13 billion to nutrition programs

  • $5 billion would be available for row crop producers at a rate of $20 dollars per acre

  • For specialty crop growers who lost a crop in 2019, $225 million is allocated

  • $3 billion dollars is earmarked for livestock producers

  • There is also a 15 percent increase in SNAP benefits for six months

The House is expected to vote on the bill today, but the Senate has failed to indicate how quickly they would advance the legislation.
