Court Decision in Organic Livestock Rule Coming Soon

A court decision on the Organic Livestock Rule is coming in 2020. The Organic Trade Association asked the U.S. District Court to rule in its favor on its lawsuit against the USDA.

The motion for summary judgment says the USDA acted unlawfully in withdrawing livestock standards it will advance the case scheduled to be finalized by the end of January.

Researchers compare the value of conventional versus organic farmland. Ag research firm Mercaris, tells Brownfield Ag News they are still in the early stages of collecting information, and the initial results are in organic landowners’ favor from a cash rent perspective. They also say it’s too soon to provide actual numbers on the monetary value of organic farmland.
