Drought Conditions Persist in Iowa, Texas

Soybean and corn futures were mixed overnight as some precipitation could hit drier land in the northern part of the midwest, Successful Farming reports. The amount of rain, though, is in question.

In the latest drought monitor 23% of Iowa is under severe drought. A southwest Iowa farmer says he’s concerned about soybean pod fill & bean size. Their corn is “basically done,” and they expect to begin harvest in mid-September.

And in southwest Texas there’s exceptional levels of drought. Our meteorologist Tim Ross notes that this is the first time the designation has been used in this current cycle.
