Egg prices reach all-time highs
March 27, 2020 04:16 PM
Egg prices have rapidly risen in the U.S. upon increased demand during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to
Reuters
, the wholesale price of Midwest large eggs hit $3.09/dozen Thursday, which was a new record.
The price of Midwest large eggs dropped as low as $0.78 in January and $1.03 in February.
Eggs are used in about 93 percent of U.S. households and Jayson Lusk, an agricultural economics professor at Purdue told Reuters the increase in egg prices may also have to do with consumers being willing to pay more for eggs.
