NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) Livestock haulers won’t be required to use an electronic logging device during the government shutdown. Last month, the “Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration” added language saying haulers were exempt from the electronic logging device mandate “until further notice.” News outlets interpreted the notice as permanent, sparking confusion. FMCSA doesn’t have the authority to extend or suspend exemptions. ELD exemptions are included in the Senate and House versions of the 2019 budget. If passed, it would extend the ELD exemption until September. Current ELD regulations limited truckers to driving 11 hours daily, after 10 consecutive hours off duty, and restricted their on-duty time to 14 consecutive hours.
