Some alcohol distillers are helping the nation by switching from spirits to hand sanitizer. The distillers are not only helping with public health but also keeping their employees paid, until things return to normal.
However, there are certain rules and regulations distillers have to follow, which hinders mass production of hand sanitizer. Rick Schwark, President and CEO of Absolute Energy LLC, stated, “We want to be complaint, but it could strand millions of gallons that could be used to make sanitizer...I’m hopeful that the FDA and TTB will work together to provide the needed flexibility, so we can help out some of those that are trying to reposed to to the unprecedented demand.”
