The U.S. embassy in Taiwan is challenging what it calls “fake news” about American pork.
The embassy released a statement saying that U.S. pork meets all the safety standards set by both nations. It challenges stories that say that it is not safe because of ractopamine.
Last month, in an effort to boost trade, Taiwan’s government formally dropped requirements to label American pork with the additive. That sparked intense protests across the country.
Next month, Taiwan will accept its first U.S. pork shipment containing ractopamine.
