ROME, Ga. (Farm Monitor) — From the farm to the mill and ultimately to consumers’ tables, one Georgia operation is helping keep a Southern tradition alive.

Artisan Milling Company owner Brad Swancy has spent nearly two decades producing stone-ground grits in northwest Georgia.

Rather than focusing on high-volume production, the company uses a traditional approach that preserves more of the grain throughout the milling process.

Georgia is home to about 18 commercial and artisan milling businesses, supporting a market valued at more than $246 million.
