Georgians could soon vote on whether to keep daylight savings time

Daylight Savings

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Georgians could soon vote on whether they want to keep daylight savings time under legislation in the Georgia House.

A State representative proposed that the state hold a nonbinding referendum asking residents if they would like to do away with daylight savings time. A nonbinding referendum is a ballot question used to inform the state government about potential future action.

Under the bill, voters’ options would be to keep the annual time change, switch year-round standard time, or switch to year-round daylight savings time.

If the referendum were to come back with a clear preference for discarding the current system, a bill adopting the preferred option would be introduced to the House next year.
