An 8-year-old girl from Penn Township, Pennsylvania was hospitalized with severe injuries to her head and upper body after being run over by a tractor on Sunday.
She is now asking for get-well cards to put a smile on her face.
Haley Detman was taken to a local hospital with injuries that included fractures to her skull, jaw and ribs, lung punctures, and a broken shoulder and upper arm, according to her mother Melissa Negley.
Her mother said she is currently on morphine, but even that isn’t enough.
“She hasn’t been sleeping very well. We are trying to find the best medications to get her pain under control,” Negley said to Penn Live News.
Haley faces more surgery and a long recovery, but it appears she escaped any long-term brain injury.
Haley will undergo jaw surgery to repair a broken temporomandibular joint that connects her jaw to her skull.
Haley loves school, but will be forced to miss at least a month of classes, her mother said. As a result, Haley told her mom she wants to hear from anyone interested in sending her a get-well card to cheer her up.
“One thing she really asked for was cards,” her mom said. “Anyone anywhere can send cards. It puts a smile on her otherwise sad face.”
