Good Gourd! The weight of the world’s heaviest pumpkin ever may shock you!

In honor of Halloween, we pulled together a few spooky ag facts for you on some record-breaking gourds!

Did you know? The world’s heaviest pumpkin ever recorded was grown in Tuscany, Italy, by Stefano Cutrupi in October 2021, setting the world record at the European Pumpkin Weighing Championship in Ludwigsburg, Germany, with a 2,703-pound pumpkin!

The second largest pumpkin on-record was grown in Belgium in 2016. That squashed the current world record, coming in at a whopping 2,624 pounds!

However, the record-breaking crop in the United States is not very far behind! Last year, in 2022, in Minnesota, a pumpkin was discovered to weigh approximately 2,560 pounds.

Talk about scary big!

By comparison, an average pumpkin typically falls somewhere between 2 and 15 pounds. However, according to Harper’s Nurseries, giant pumpkin varieties often reach between 40 and 50 pounds.
