(Fox News)-- Luc van Brenk went out fishing with a buddy on Wednesday in hopes of reeling in his first burbot fish. They headed to Diversity Harbor in Illinois to try their look.

Luc was told by his friend that it was “the poor man’s lobster,” according to Fox News.

The men were able to real one in and headed to the closest bait shop, where they were in for a surprise.

The burbot fish that the men caught weighed in at about 9 pounds, 11 ounces and 31 and a half inches long. The state record for that fish was set back in 2018 at 9 pounds, 6 ounces.

So, van Brenk’s first burbot fish broke the state record by 5 whole ounces.
