A new initiative in Iowa will allow consumers better access to local beef producers through a local beef directory established by the Iowa Beef Industry Council.

According to IBIC director of industry relations Casey Allison, the coronavirus pandemic has lead to a spike in consumer interest in purchasing beef directly from farmers.

“It has ushered in a renewed interest in food security and ignited an increased interest from consumers to purchase beef directly from farmers,” Allison told BrownfieldAgNews. “And we’ve also seen an uptick in the number of inquiries from producers seeking resources regarding what they need to do to start selling beef direct.”

Some of the local producers are showcased here.

I"n response to a growing interest in knowing more about how beef is raised and connecting consumers to farmers. NCBA, a contractor to the Beef Checkoff, generated its first-ever social responsibility report, The Cattlemen’s Stewardship Review,” the webpage states. “The first-of-its-kind look at the values and vision of beef farmers and ranchers and how they responsibly raise wholesome food and healthy animals.”
