Iowa Secretary Mike Naig weighs in on the state’s HPAI devastating impact

High Pathogenic Avian Influenza continues to spread, with Iowa being the hardest-hit state.

41,000 birds were recently lost after an outbreak in a commercial turkey flock in Buena Vista county, the second outbreak in that county in less than a week.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig spoke with RFD-TV’s Suzanne Alexander about what he is hearing from producers in Iowa, what he is seeing that made the U.S. surpass the 2015 record, and the problems it is creating for the poultry sector.
