High Path Avian Flu has been a deadly and costly virus for U.S. agriculture. Now, some worry that broilers could be taking a hit when it comes to exports.
More than 50 lawmakers have written to APHIS. They say the definition of “poultry” by the World Organization for Animal Health is causing exports to be turned away. The exports are commercial but are being rejected because of HPAI detections in non-commercial situations.
The U.S. Animal Health Association has proposed a change in defining non-commercial birds. The group says the current definition is costing American poultry producers hundreds of millions of dollars.
