Army Sgt. Billy J. Maxwell was just 19 when he died in the Korean War and now almost 69 years after he was officially reported missing in action on Nov. 30, 1950, he will receive a proper burial.
According to 11Alive, Maxwell died when his unit engaged in intense fighting in North Korea and his whereabouts were discovered on July 27, 2018 when North Korea turned over 55 boxes that contained the remains of American service members.
Maxwell will be buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetary in Hogansville, Georgia on Nov. 9 at 2:45 p.m. Maxwell’s great-nephew, who currently serves in the Navy, will be his military escort from Hawaii to Georgia.
