Lake and wetland poultry producers warned to prepare for avian influenza

Spring migration is just around the corner, and with recent cases of HPAI, poultry producers need to be on higher alert, especially in states dappled with lakes and wetlands.

A Minnesota state veterinarian says that producers need to update their biosecurity plans.

Minnesota is known as a “high-risk area” due to the large number of turkeys raised near the water. The vet says that it is not a matter of if it comes to the state, but when.

In 2015, more than a hundred Minnesota farms were affected by the virus and about 9,000,000 birds were culled.
