Loggers and haulers have aid on the way

New bipartisan legislation is aiming to help forestry businesses through the economic downturn.

The proposal would establish a new USDA program to provide direct payments to timber harvesting and hauling businesses who have experienced at least a 10 percent loss in revenue compared to 2019.

According to the Hagstrom Report, the effort is modeled after the USDA’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. Businesses who qualify could receive direct payments equal to 10 percent of their gross revenue, from January through July of last year.
