A South Dakota cowboy won millions of dollars in a Powerball jackpot back in 2009. He used his winning to acquire a 50,000-acre ranch north of Rapid City.
Neal Wanless has now sold that very ranch for $37 million, more than double what he originally paid. Bismarck Ranch has rolling hills, grazing pastures, and a river. It hosts four homes, one being a western-themed residence that is 6,500 square feet.
According to Robb Nelson of Hall and Hall, it is the most expensive ranch to be sold in the state. The previous record was Triple U Ranch at just over $32 million.
Wanless won the $232.1 million dollar Powerball when he was only 23. His luck allowed him to pursue his dreams of becoming a rancher. “I could have retired and done really nothing... But I love it. Ranching is a hard life, but if you love what you’re doing, it’s an easy life,” he stated, according to Mansion Global.
The broker for the property stated, “Bismark Trail Ranch is truly a unique ranch from the diverse topography to its diverse uses. Strong agriculture production and expansive grazing opportunities are tremendous for this multi-faceted investment asset.”
