A man in Hamilton County, Texas has been arrested for cattle theft following an investigation by the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
According to the TSCRA, the 35-year-old Justin Smith took and failed to return five head of cattle valued at $5,000. He was given the opportunity to return the cattle after the victim made contact with the TSRCA, but failed to do so.
Special Ranger Marvin Wills said that Smith admitted to cosigning and selling the animals in his ex-girlfriends name.
Smith was charged with third-degree felony theft of livestock and was arrested without incident and released on $25,000 bond. He faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000 in addition to restitution.
This was one of two livestock theft arrests reported by the TSCRA this week.
