A USDA report shows consumer eating patterns do not meet dietary recommendations.
ERS data shows consumption for 11 food categories fell more than 20 percent outside recommended levels with whole grains 70 percent below federal recommendations. Refined grains, however, were 85 percent above recommended levels. Only six categories were within 20 percent of ideal levels.
The report shows food purchased for at-home consumption was more in-line with dietary guidelines versus food found at restaurants and fast food stops.
