Minnesota Department of Agriculture on suspicious seeds

Speculation looms as residents across the country received suspicious, unsolicited packages of seed that appeared to originate in China.

Denise Theed with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture said their office received about 150 reports from around the state with concerns about the packages.

“The concerns are that, it appears to be a lot of different kinds of seeds. We haven’t identified any of it yet... The main concern is that we have rules and regulations about how seeds need to be shipped into the U.S. and the whole process for labeling and identifying seeds coming into the country... We really don’t know what type of seed is coming in and don’t want that seed to get planted,” she said.
