Rural areas in Nebraska could get a health care boost thanks to a grant.
The more than 1 and half-million dollars goes to the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College Of Nursing. The funding will be used to launch a residency program. Doctor of Nursing, Leann Holmes, says it will not only help residents learn skills for working with medically complex patients but also how to work in rural Nebraska.
“So for the people in rural Nebraska, what we hope this will mean is that these newly graduated nurse practitioners will have these increased skills and this increased confidence to feel like they can work now in rural Nebraska and will seek out the opportunities to work there and stay in those communities.”
UNMC’s College of Nursing was one of only eight to receive the grant in the country to support unique challenges of rural and underserved communities.
