New Dolly Parton Mural graces downtown Nashville

Back in October, Music City was graced with another mural of the Queen of Tennessee

Acme Feed and Seed, a restaurant and bar located on lower Broadway, unveiled a mural of Dolly Parton on its exterior wall facing First Ave. The piece was created by local artist MacKenzie Moore, who is known for her work with country music artist Kacey Musgraves.

“We’re here to unveil a very important mural. Just a blessing of Dolly Parton. It’s in celebration of her Imagination Library, which is just really an incredible organization... I’m just excited for people to see it and interact with it. It’s been a long time in the making, but it was really worth it to see it, and done, and unveiled,” Moore stated.

When asked what Dolly means to her, she added, “She’s just such a special person. What an icon. What a class act.”

The mural had elements of Dolly’s personal brand, such as butterflies and bright colors, and imagery paying homage to her upbringing in eastern Tennessee.

Kendall Morales with Acme stated that she and her sister really wanted to bring public art back to downtown Nashville. “Dolly Parton is obviously a Tennessee icon. I think what is amazing about her is that she is not afraid to be bold and she is not afraid to be who she is and be loud and colorful and vibrant. And that is like my favorite part about her,” Morales noted.

The event was capped off with a Dolly-themed happy hour.

During the event, Acme raised money for Imagination Library. The program has gifted nearly 200 million books to children since 1995. Her work with Imagination Library was one of the reasons why Parton was honored with the Courage and Civility Award this year.
