Protecting private water rights a group of western lawmakers reintroduced a bill to do just that.

The Water Rights Protection Act of 2023 would stop the federal government from seizing privately-owned water. The Senators behind the bill say that it is an effort to “stop Washington from bullying ranchers and farmers.”

The act will prevent USDA and the Department of Interior from mandating transfer water rights and recognize state water law and require coordination within that.
