Not exactly “pennies from heaven” . . .
After months of lobbying his former employer for the final paycheck that was due him, Andreas Flaten, of Fayetteville, Georgia, walked outside a few days ago and discovered over 90,000 pennies, covered in some kind of oil or grease, dumped in his driveway. On top of the pile was an envelope, with a less-than-genial note on the outside, containing his final pay stub.
Flaten says he had contacted the Georgia Department of Labor in an effort to collect the final payment that was owed him after he left his job at A OK Walker Autoworks last November. He called the prank “childish,” further explaining that his efforts to clean the oil or grease off the pennies is both time consuming and potentially harmful for the environment. He also said that the pile of pennies had been transferred to a wheelbarrow, the tires of which have been flattened by the excessive weight. “If I’ve done my math correctly, 91,515 pennies should come out to be about – at two and a half grams each – about 504 pounds,” he said.
When contacted, the owner at Flaten’s former place of work said simply that he had paid Flaten in U.S. currency and declined to have any further part in the story.
