It is a battle between good flavor and going green when it comes to plant-based alternatives.
A recent report from the Boston Consulting Group found meat and dairy alternatives have a better environmental impact than several other green investments.
For every dollar, plant-based alternatives result in three times more greenhouse gas reductions than green cement, seven times more than green buildings, and 11 times more than zero-emission cars.
Investments in protein alternatives jumped from $1 billion in 2019 to $5 billion in 2021, but it comes at a cost. Right now, most plant-based sales are way down - consumers say they lack flavor.
