President Joe Biden will sign an executive order today aimed at directing more spending to the biotech industry.
This is in hopes of limiting U.S. dependence on China for biologically derived resources to make new foods, fertilizers, and seeds. The Administration hopes the spending will make mining operations more efficient as well.
Leaders did not give details on where the money will come from or how it will be spent, but more information is expected later this week. On average, government funding for research and development has dropped since the 1950s.
