The Rodeo of the Ozarks announced yesterday that it unfortunately will not take place this year in Springdale, Arkansas, aside from the rodeo committee doing everything in their power to make it happen.
Board of Directors member Sach Oliver joined Western Sports Round-Up to explain why they were unable to hold the 76th annual rodeo this year.
“It was absolutely just a sad day in Springdale, Arkansas,” he said. “Our entire board worked so hard with the community, with the PRCA, with our stock contractor [Harper & Morgan Rodeo Co.], and we just couldn’t make it happen. ... It just took the wind out of us. We hate it for the contestants, because we know how badly they need and want to rodeo. That’s what was motivating us. We’d already reached a point where we knew we weren’t going to make any money, we were just looking to break even. So we were just going to be doing it for the contestants and the few people that could come, and that’s just not going to happen.”
