The Senate Ag Committee chair is among a group of Senators asking Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to support California’s Prop-12 before the Supreme Court.
Major ag groups oppose the law, which requires strict housing for hogs. Sen. Debbie Stabenow is among those saying that states should not be stripped of their right to mitigate the farm that confinement poses to animals, people, and the environment.
Stabenow’s home state of Michigan has a similar law, but it has not received the same attention as California.
